February 2001

This past autumn ICS Publications headquarters had the visit of two Carmelites, one a Friar and the other a Secular Order member, from Europe.

Fr. Michael Linssen is President of the International Edith Stein Institute located in Wurzburg, Germany and as such he guides the publications of the works of St. Edith Stein. He came, along with Dr. Ilse Kerremans of Belgium, to present information to the ICS Publications staff about the new edition of the saint's writings that has just been launched. The new volumes will contain texts more closely aligned to the original Stein manuscripts than in previous volumes. They will also contain contextualizing footnotes and scholarly introductions. Awareness of this new editorial effort in Germany will help us in America to plan our future volumes.

While here, the two guests conferred also in our monastery with Stein scholars and translators, among them Sr. Josephine Koeppel and Dr. Marianne Sawicki. They graciously supplied photos of their pleasant stay in Washington on Lincoln Road.

The longer we have our website up and running, the more we like it. Thanks to the efforts of Sr. Marie Bernardina, Webmistress, [see photo of her monastery at the end of this newsnote], it is always ready to welcome visitors. The most gratifying news we want to pass on is: 597 "hits" the first 38 days of 2001.

That translates to an increasing amount of order made over the internet. Not to rest on our laurels, however, we take this opportunity to invite you to send any feed-back you'd like to offer. Thank you.
