Winter 2002

As a religious publisher ICS Publications tries both to be supported by and to support other Catholic publishing houses. That is why years ago we became charter members of the Catholic Book Publishing Association when it was founded in 1987.

At the association's website, www.cbpa.org, its goals are spelled out in the following succinct terms: "The Catholic Book Publishers Association facilitates the sharing of professional information, networking, cooperation, and friendship among those involved in Catholic Book Publishing in the United States and abroad."

The current CBPA Directory shows there are 80 different entity members. Just before our entry one sees Harper San Francisco, and the Office for Publishing and Promotion Service of the USCCB (the publishing arm of the Catholic bishops of the United States) is also a member.

We share in the information distributed by updates and reports, and on some occasions have availed ourselves of one of the promotional services supplied by the central office. This was a cover notice for a book about St. Thérèse in the "Spirit of Books Retail Catalogue" that is distributed to numerous religious bookstores around the country.

As Catholic Press Month is celebrated in this winter season--during February, to be exact--we ask you to remember in prayer all those who serve the church in this challenging, but rewarding, ministry.

Our members sometimes accept the invitations of other publishers to contribute writings to their catalogues.

Lately Fr. Marc Foley has had a book on St. Thérèse published by Paulist Press, and he is near completion of a volume of selected texts of St. John of the Cross for New City Press. Fr. Kieran Kavanaugh has published a volume about St. John of the Cross in Crossroad's "Spiritual Legacy Series" and has prepared a volume of selected writings of St. Teresa of Avila for New City Press. Fr. John Sullivan awaits publication in January of a compilation of Edith Stein's writings in the "Modern Spiritual Masters Series" of ORBIS Books. Fr. Steven Payne has had a study of St.Thérèse, Doctor of the Church accepted for publication by Alba House. They all join previous contributions by ICS members published over the years.

We do not handle these books through ICS Publications, so we recommend you direct any inquiries you might have about them to your local bookstore or directly to the publishers themselves.
