Novena to St. Teresa of Ávila by St. Alphonsus Liguori
An eighteenth-century saint and Doctor of the Church, St. Alphonsus Liguori wrote extensively on the spiritual life, having been influenced by the teachings of St. Teresa of Ávila. As a young seminarian, he became a faithful devotee of St. Teresa, even signing his letters, "long live Jesus, Mary, Joseph, and Teresa." St. Teresa's influence even extended to Alphonsus' devotion to St. Joseph. Today, these two saints (St. Teresa and St. Alphonsus) along with St. André Bessette, are honored for their devotion to St. Joseph by their depiction in the sanctuary of St. Joseph's Oratory in Montréal, the largest shrine dedicated to St. Joseph in the world.
The following novena, composed by St. Alphonsus, asks for the grace to imitate the virtues of St. Teresa. We invite you to pray along with us during the days of this novena.

O most amiable Lord Jesus Christ! We thank You for the great gift of faith and devotion to the Most Blessed Sacrament which You gave to Your servant Teresa. We pray that by Your merits and those of Your faithful spouse, that we may receive the gift of faith and of a fervent devotion toward the most Blessed Sacrament, through which You give Yourself to us.
